When You Feel Alone at Night

Near to the Brokenhearted

The night makes loneliness louder. The silence feels heavier. This passage was written not for people who have recovered, but for people in the middle of it.

The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18 (ESV)

Notice who God is described as near to. Not the healed, not the disciplined, not the ones who have it together. The brokenhearted. The crushed. The ones for whom the night is too long and the silence too heavy. You qualify. God draws near to the exact place you are standing.

A Prayer

Lord, I am alone tonight and it is heavy. Come close -- not after I have earned it, but now. I believe you are near to the brokenhearted. Help me feel that tonight. Amen.

One Next Step

Say aloud: "I am not alone." Then name one real person in your life and send them any message -- not about the struggle, just a connection. That is a step toward what the loneliness is actually asking for.
