When You Feel Ashamed
There Is No Condemnation
Shame lies. It tells you that you are what you did -- that your worst moment defines you permanently. The Bible tells a different story: that in Christ, the condemnation has already been dealt with.
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.Romans 8:1 (ESV)
The word "now" carries everything here. Not "there will be no condemnation when you finally stop." Not "there is no condemnation for those who have their act together." Now. In Christ. While you are still in the struggle. Shame is real, but it does not speak the final word about you.
Lord, the shame is heavy right now. I feel defined by my worst moments. Help me receive this instead: that in you, the verdict has changed. Not because I earned it, but because of what you have done. Lift the weight long enough for me to take one honest step. Amen.
Write one true thing about who you are in Christ -- not about your behavior, but your identity. Read it aloud once. That is the whole step.
